Troubleshooting Power, Battery, and Charging Alarms

The power alarms describe your device's ability to harvest and store power in its battery. This article covers the three you might see and how to handle each.

Low battery

This alarm triggers when the battery charge drops below 20%. A few things could cause it:

  • Not enough solar to charge the device. Check the solar panel's angle and direction, and whether anything is shading the device. Consider re-siting the device if low battery is hurting its uptime.
  • Sampling frequency is too high. You may need to reduce it — see the Node-S sampling frequency.
  • Paired with a "too cold/hot to charge" alarm. You may need to retrieve the device and recharge it with the included mains power adapter.

Too cold to charge battery

This triggers when at least 75% of readings in the last 24 hours have a temperature below 0 °C.

If battery levels are high, usually no action is needed — temperatures fluctuate. If the battery is low, data upload may slow down; follow the Low Battery steps above if uptime is critical.

Too hot to charge battery

This triggers when at least 75% of readings in the last 24 hours have a temperature above 40 °C.

As with "too cold," if the battery is high no action is usually needed. If it's low, follow the Low Battery steps above if uptime is critical.
