How do I swap out a Node while keeping the data from both old and new devices linked to the same site via Datasource ID?
Need to swap out a Node because it failed or reached the end of its life, but don't want to lose the continuous record for that site? The Replace action keeps both the old and new device's data flowing into the same Datasource. This takes a couple of minutes.
Before you start
- You'll need to be signed in to the Clarity Dashboard.
- Have the replacement Node available in your inventory.
1. Open the location whose node you're replacing
The Replace action lives on the node's location card in Monitoring Locations.
- In the left sidebar, under SENSOR NETWORK, click Monitoring Locations.
- Find the location in the table or on the map, and click it to open its detail card on the left.
From the Devices page, open a deployed node's ⋮ row-actions menu and choose Manage monitoring location to jump straight to its card.
2. Replace the node with one from inventory
This swaps the device while the monitoring location, and its Datasource, keeps running.
- On the location card, in the Devices section, click Replace next to the node row.
- In the Replace node in <location> modal, pick a Replacement node from your inventory.
- Review the "What will happen" summary: the old node moves to inventory, and the replacement is configured at the same location and coordinates.
- Click Confirm.
You're done! The old Node moves to inventory, the new one is configured at the same location, and the monitoring location keeps running on the same Datasource, now with measurements from the new Node.
What's next
- What is a monitoring location (a.k.a. Datasource), and how it keeps your data continuous.
- Manage your Nodes.
